Why has my laptop keyboard stopped working?
A keyboard that doesn't respond at all usually has a connection problem or a hardware fault.
It usually needs a technician, but it's rarely an emergency. The checks below are safe to try first.
Does this sound like yours?
- The whole keyboard doesn't respond
What usually causes it
- Keyboard cable loose inside (often after a drop)
- Keyboard hardware failure
Most likely first. A hands-on test confirms which one it is.
What you can safely check
- Try an external USB keyboard. If it works, the built-in keyboard or its connection is the problem
- Restart and test again
Please don't
- Don't try to reconnect the internal keyboard cable yourself without experience
