In short: ENB lets any business, including on the free plan, send bulk SMS to Nigerian numbers from a prepaid naira balance. You request your own Sender ID (3 to 11 characters, such as your business name), choose the promotional route or the transactional route that also reaches numbers on DND, and pay per SMS page. Messages are sent through Termii, a Nigerian SMS provider.
Pay as you go
No subscription for SMS. Top up your balance and each page is charged when it sends; if the network refuses a message, the charge is refunded.
Your own Sender ID
Customers see your name instead of a random number. Sender IDs are reviewed by the network provider before first use.
DND explained, not dodged
Promotional SMS doesn't reach numbers on the NCC Do-Not-Disturb list. For order updates and reminders, the transactional route reaches DND numbers at a slightly higher price.
Quiet hours
Promotional SMS waits between 9pm and 8am in your time zone, so nobody gets a sale text at midnight.
Consent built in
Only contacts with SMS consent receive messages, and promotional texts include a short opt-out link that unsubscribes the person straight away.
Delivery reports
See what was delivered, what failed and what it cost, per campaign.
How it works
- Create a free account and request your Sender ID.
- Top up your SMS balance in naira.
- Write your message and check the page count and cost before you send.
- Send now or schedule it, then check delivery reports.
How SMS pricing works
SMS is billed per page, not per message. A standard page holds 160 characters; longer messages are split into pages of 153 characters each (the rest is used to join them back together on the phone). If your message contains any character outside the basic SMS alphabet, such as an emoji, curly quotes or the naira sign ₦, the whole message is sent as Unicode and a page holds only 70 characters (67 when split). That can triple the cost of a campaign without you noticing, so the app shows the page count and the cost before you send. You can test any message with our free SMS character counter, which uses exactly the same counting rules.
Messages can be up to 6 pages long. The price per page is shown in the app's SMS settings and is the same on every plan. Top-ups are paid by card in naira.
Promotional vs transactional route
| Promotional route | Transactional route | |
|---|---|---|
| Use it for | Offers, sales, news | Order updates, reminders, OTP-style alerts |
| Reaches numbers on DND | No | Yes |
| Quiet hours (9pm to 8am) | Yes | No |
| Opt-out link added | Yes | No |
| Price per page | Standard | Slightly higher |
Use the transactional route honestly: a "your order is ready" text is transactional, a "20% off this weekend" text is not. Misusing the route can get a Sender ID blocked by the networks. Read more in our guide to DND and bulk SMS in Nigeria.
SMS inside automations
SMS is also a step in automations, so a welcome email can be followed by a text two days later, or an abandoned-cart email by an SMS reminder. Contacts without SMS consent are skipped automatically.
Frequently asked questions
How much does bulk SMS cost in Nigeria?
Prices are per SMS page and depend on the route; the current price is shown in the app before you send. There's no monthly fee for SMS on ENB: it works on every plan, including Free.
Why is my SMS counted as more than one page?
A page holds 160 characters, or only 70 if the message contains an emoji or a special character like ₦ or curly quotes. Longer messages are split into 153- or 67-character pages.
Will my SMS reach people on DND?
Promotional messages don't reach numbers on the NCC Do-Not-Disturb list. The transactional route does, and should only be used for genuine transactional messages.
Can I use my business name as the Sender ID?
Yes, if it's 3 to 11 characters and includes at least one letter. Sender IDs are reviewed by the provider before first use.
Do I need a paid plan to send SMS?
No. SMS is pay per page from your balance on every plan, including the free plan.
